The Advanced Facilitations Skills workshop is a three day residential program for experienced facilitators who want to take their skills to another level.

Workshop Outline

During the three days, participants will explore together what it means to be at ease in groups and to be able to extend their personal range in order to enhance their facilitation style.

Key themes include:

o    Presence: the essence of facilitation – being rather than doing

o    Working with what the group brings – allowing the group to flourish

o    Working in the moment with the unfolding group process - going with the flow

o    Creating an atmosphere of engagement – building a relationship with the group.

Key models, and their application to group process facilitation, include the Facilitation Spectrum, Creative Indifference, Clearing the Field, 3 Zones of Awareness, The Cycle of Experience  and the 7 Pillars of Perception.

This workshop will challenge and engage participants in a highly experiential way and offer a unique chance to learn with, and from, other skilled professionals.

The residential nature of the program ensures that this will be a truly memorable event and the participants will get the most out of the time available.

Key Learning Outcomes

The outcomes will be influenced by participant needs but will include skill development in:

Presence: the essence of facilitation being rather than doing

The key to advanced facilitation is for facilitators to be themselves; to bring who they are fully and openly into their work. Being present with the group does not mean being noticed or leading the group, but being with them where they are.

Working with what the group brings – allowing the group to flourish

When groups come together they represent an amalgam of all the individual needs, expectations and fears of members of the group. By acknowledging and working with what the group brings we free the group space for the group’s potential to flourish.

Working in the moment with the unfolding group process - going with the flow

As groups spend time together their way of being and operating together, i.e. their process, slowly unfolds. Attending to the group dynamics, what is actually happening from moment to moment, enables the facilitator to stay in touch with the group and to both intervene in, and contribute to, the group’s unfolding process.

Creating an atmosphere of engagement – building a relationship with the group

Members of the group you are facilitating will not necessarily engage with the group process simply because they are there. Engagement has to be invited through forging a meaningful relationship with the group and each individual in the group. An atmosphere of engagement is palpable when it exists and when it doesn’t the atmosphere is flat and dead.
